Titanic Gold Pocket Watch to Be Auctioned for £1 Million

A rare gold pocket watch, once owned by a prominent passenger of the Titanic, is set to be auctioned this month. It was recovered from his body following the ship's sinking in 1912.

The watch belonged to Isidor Straus, co-founder of the renowned New York department store "Macy's," and was among the wealthiest passengers aboard the ill-fated vessel.

It was found among his personal belongings after his body was retrieved from the Atlantic Ocean. The timepiece is made of 18-karat gold and bears the signature of Swiss maker Jules Jorgensen.

The British auction house "Henry Aldridge & Son" has announced that the watch will be offered for sale on November 22, with an estimated starting price of around one million pounds, reflecting its historical and symbolic significance.

Beyond its material value, the watch serves as a silent witness to one of the greatest maritime disasters in history, believed to have stopped at the moment the massive ship was engulfed by the waves.

According to the auction organizers, this rare item represents a "touching human relic" that highlights the tragic love story between Straus and his wife, Ida, who refused to leave the ship without him, ultimately perishing together.
