Germany's Foreign Minister: G7 Nations Seek UN Mandate for Gaza Peace Plan Implementation

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul announced that the G7 nations are pursuing a United Nations Security Council mandate to expedite the implementation of a peace plan in Gaza.
This announcement came during a meeting of foreign ministers from the G7 in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Canada, where Wadephul stated that the aim of the mandate is to "disarm Hamas and establish an international security force to oversee the region."
The German minister added that the foreign ministers discussed the matter during their opening session on Tuesday evening, emphasizing that they "agreed on the necessity of a Security Council mandate that must be achieved as soon as possible." He also cautioned that "decisions cannot simply be imposed; they must be seriously negotiated."
Wadephul pointed out that "time is of the essence," highlighting the urgent need for a security framework to maintain order in Gaza.
The G7 group includes Germany, the United States, France, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and Canada.
