US Resolution Draft Calls for Reliable Path to Palestinian Statehood

Israeli broadcaster Kan has disclosed details of a US draft resolution for the Security Council, which is presented primarily for the first time rather than as an annex. The draft outlines steps aimed at advancing the process for establishing a Palestinian state.
According to the draft prepared by the US administration, "after the diligent implementation of the Palestinian Authority's reform program and progress in the redevelopment of Gaza, conditions may finally be ripe for a reliable path to Palestinian self-determination and statehood."
A new provision in the draft commits the United States to "initiate dialogue between Israel and the Palestinians to agree on a political vision for peaceful and prosperous coexistence."
The draft also references a security mechanism that involves "international stabilization forces" working alongside Israel and Egypt, in cooperation with "a recently vetted and trained Palestinian police force."
The revelation of this draft follows a call from the United States on Thursday for Security Council members to show "unity" in supporting the resolution, which endorses President Donald Trump's peace plan for Gaza.
The US mission to the United Nations warned in a statement of "serious consequences" for Palestinians if the resolution is not adopted, noting that "attempts to incite unrest while negotiations on this resolution are ongoing could have severe and tangible repercussions for Palestinians in Gaza, which are entirely avoidable."
The statement emphasized that "the ceasefire is fragile, and we urge the Council to unite and move forward to ensure the urgently needed peace," describing this as a "historic moment to pave the way for lasting peace in the Middle East."
The US delegation reported that Washington has been engaged in intensive negotiations in the Security Council since early November regarding the draft resolution, working closely with members and partners to achieve consensus on a document that "supports international stabilization forces" and ensures "a stable, secure, peaceful, and prosperous future for Palestinians in Gaza, away from Hamas."
