Darfur Governor Calls for Enhanced Role of ICC in Investigating Crimes in Al-Fasher and Al-Jenina

Mini Arko Minawi, the Governor of Darfur, urged on Friday for a strengthened role of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in probing and identifying those accountable for crimes committed in Al-Fasher, Al-Jenina, and other areas affected by conflict.

Minawi emphasized the need for strict international accountability regarding crimes against civilians, including mass murder, rape, and forced displacement. He asserted that any political agreement or ceasefire would be ineffective if it did not include accountability for the perpetrators of these atrocities.

He noted that the ongoing violations threaten the unity of Sudan and warned that neglecting justice could lead to the country's fragmentation.

Minawi's statements come amid a worsening humanitarian crisis in Darfur, where over 100,000 people have been displaced from Al-Fasher in the past two weeks, as the UN warns of an escalating humanitarian catastrophe.
