Syria's President Al-Chaar Announces Presidential Elections in Four Years

Al-Chaar noted that all religious groups participate in the Syrian government, asserting that power-sharing based on sectarian or ethnic lines is a "significant mistake" and that participation occurs without any division. He stated that the elections align with the needs of the transitional phase, highlighting that Syria has experienced significant isolation over the past sixty years, and the measures taken thus far are intended to serve the common good and support national stability.
Addressing economic conditions, Al-Chaar mentioned that lifting U.S. sanctions would help improve the situation, claiming support from the Trump administration for this process, while warning that any violations would be penalized.
On security matters, Al-Chaar indicated that recent events on the coast were instigated by remnants of the former regime, asserting that Syria is a state governed by law that guarantees the rights of all citizens. He also accused Israel of attempting to export its crises to other nations, describing its concerns as "unjustified," and stated that Syria is under attack and is not the aggressor. He added that ongoing negotiations involving Washington focus on Israel's withdrawal, cautioning against the risks of establishing a buffer zone amid ongoing tensions on the ground.
