U.S. envoy to Syria, Tom Brack, stated on Saturday following his meetings with the Syrian President and Foreign Minister in Damascus that their discussions centered on the situation in Aleppo and the future of political transformation in Syria.
He noted that President Donald Trump views this period as a critical opportunity to build a unified Syria where all groups are treated with respect and dignity.
Brack emphasized that Washington supports the ongoing historic transformation in Syria and backs the government led by Farouk al-Sharaa in its efforts to achieve stability. He indicated that Damascus reaffirmed its commitment to the March 2025 agreement signed with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
However, he warned that recent developments in Aleppo could jeopardize the terms of the agreement, raising significant concerns in Washington.
Brack called on all parties to immediately cease hostilities and exercise maximum restraint, urging a return to dialogue in line with the agreements from March 10 and April 1, 2025, between the Syrian government and the SDF.
He added that continued violence threatens to undermine the progress made since the fall of Assad's regime and could invite external interventions that would not benefit any party involved.
Brack confirmed the U.S. State Department's readiness to facilitate dialogue between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces to achieve a comprehensive integration process that maintains the country's unity.
He concluded by stating that the ultimate goal is a unified and sovereign Syria, at peace with itself and its neighbors, where all citizens enjoy equality and equal opportunities.
