Syria's President Al-Chaar Meets Trump to Discuss Post-War Arrangements

Syrian President Ahmad al-Chaar arrived in Washington, D.C. today for a meeting with President Donald Trump at the White House. This marks Al-Chaar's first high-level visit since he assumed office following the ousting of Bashar al-Assad in December.
The Syrian state media outlet "Al-Ikhbariya" reported that the two leaders have already begun formal discussions, which are being closely monitored by regional and international observers for potential political and security agreements that could redefine Syria's position in the region.
Political sources suggest that the agenda will focus on counterterrorism efforts and restoring stability in Syria, particularly as the transitional government seeks to rebuild relationships with major international powers that distanced themselves from Damascus during Assad's rule.
U.S. Special Envoy for Syria, Tom Barak, indicated that Al-Chaar might sign an agreement during this visit for Syria’s official membership in the international coalition against the Islamic State, a coalition formed in 2014 comprising over 80 countries working to combat the group militarily, financially, and logistically in Syria, Iraq, and beyond.
These discussions are viewed as an initial evaluation of Al-Chaar's ability to reintegrate Syria into the international diplomatic framework in the post-war context and to establish the country's role in the evolving power dynamics of the region.
