China Eases Export Restrictions on Nexperia Civilian Chips

On November 9, China's Ministry of Commerce announced that it will grant export exemptions for Nexperia chips designated for civilian applications. This move is anticipated to help alleviate supply chain challenges confronting automotive companies and their suppliers worldwide.
The ministry stated, "Beijing has implemented measures to allow the export of Nexperia chips that meet civilian use criteria." This decision signals China's intention to ease restrictions that have impacted the global automotive sector, which arose following the Dutch government's acquisition of Nexperia, a leading manufacturer of electronic chips used in automotive electrical systems.
Nexperia is headquartered in the Netherlands and is owned by the Chinese company Wingtech. While the Chinese ministry did not specify the exact criteria for civilian use, the announcement coincided with reports from German and Japanese companies indicating a resumption of Nexperia chip deliveries from China.
Additionally, China has urged the European Union to take more action to resolve the supply crisis. A statement from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, "China welcomes the EU's continued efforts to encourage the Netherlands to rectify its erroneous actions," expressing hope that the EU will intensify its efforts to persuade the Dutch government to end its control over Nexperia.
