Morocco Evacuates Over 108,000 Residents Amid Flood Warnings

The Moroccan Ministry of Interior reported on Wednesday that authorities have evacuated over 108,000 residents from northwestern regions since last Friday as a precautionary measure against potential flooding caused by heavy rainfall.

The ministry indicated that this decision was informed by alerts issued by relevant agencies, highlighting the risk of exceptional water inflows that could affect various water infrastructure, particularly the Oued Makhazen dam, which has seen an unprecedented increase in its water level.

This surge in water levels poses significant risks to the dam's structural integrity, prompting authorities to enhance preparedness and implement preventive measures to safeguard residents and their properties.
