A United Nations delegation visited the Quneitra province today, accompanied by Ibrahim Alabi, Syria's permanent representative to the UN, to assess the security and humanitarian conditions and discuss Israeli incursions and the ongoing violations against civilians in the region.
Meetings with Local Officials and Residents
The delegation engaged with local officials and several residents impacted by Israeli actions, gathering their testimonies regarding repeated raids, arbitrary arrests, the clearing of agricultural land, and deforestation, as well as the adverse effects of these violations on their daily lives.
Calls for an End to Violations
Residents emphasized the urgent need for action to halt Israeli incursions and violations, ensuring their safety and stability while protecting their property and livelihoods amid ongoing assaults on villages and towns in the province.
UN Commitment to Address Complaints
Led by Jean-Pierre Lacroix, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, the delegation stated that it would relay the community's demands and complaints to the UN and pursue them through official channels to support the protection of civilians and ensure their basic rights.
Arrests and Agricultural Losses
In a statement to the Sana news agency, Quneitra's governor's representative, Muhammad Al-Nasser, reported that Israeli actions have led to the clearing of agricultural land and deforestation, alongside the ongoing detention of 45 individuals from the province, negatively impacting residents' living conditions.
UN Activities in Quneitra's Surroundings
The UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) has announced the resumption of patrols and the establishment of nighttime checkpoints in several villages and towns in northern Quneitra due to the escalating security situation.
Calls for Adherence to the Ceasefire Agreement
Syria has reiterated that Israel continues to violate the 1974 ceasefire agreement through incursions, arrests, forced displacements, and property destruction, urging the international community to take responsibility and compel occupying forces to withdraw completely from southern Syria and return to compliance with the agreement.
