Tom Brack, the US Special Envoy for Syria, confirmed on Saturday that his discussions with the Syrian President and Foreign Minister in Damascus focused on the situation in Aleppo and the future political transformation of the country.
He stated that President Donald Trump views this phase as a crucial opportunity to build a new, unified Syria where all groups are treated with respect and dignity.
Brack emphasized that Washington welcomes the ongoing historical transformation in Syria and supports the Syrian government under Farouk al-Sharaa in its efforts for stability. He noted that Damascus has reaffirmed its commitment to the agreement signed in March 2025 with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
However, he warned that recent developments in Aleppo could jeopardize the terms of the agreement, which is a significant concern for Washington.
Brack called on all parties to immediately cease hostilities and exercise maximum restraint, returning to dialogue in accordance with the agreements from March 10 and April 1, 2025, between the Syrian government and the SDF.
He added that continued violence threatens the progress made since the fall of the Assad regime and opens the door to external interventions that do not serve the interests of any party.
Brack confirmed the US State Department's readiness to facilitate dialogue between the Syrian government and the SDF to achieve a comprehensive integration process that preserves the unity of the country.
He concluded by stating that the ultimate goal is a unified, sovereign Syria that is at peace with itself and its neighbors, where citizens enjoy equality and equal opportunities.
