A recent study has shown that generative AI models such as ChatGPT, Claude, and LLaMa can analyze text and written language to accurately understand personality traits, sometimes surpassing the assessments of close friends.
Researchers from the University of Michigan noted that interacting with these models can provide deeper insights into personality and human behavior.

The study was based on the analysis of diaries and personal narratives written by 160 participants, revealing a significant alignment between AI assessments and participants' self-perceptions.
The analysis went beyond merely identifying personality traits; it also evaluated emotional states, stress levels, social interaction patterns, and potential signs of mental health issues.

Everyday Language Reveals Personality Traits

Professor Aidan Wright explained that personality is naturally reflected in the way language and everyday narratives are used, even when individuals do not attempt to express themselves directly.
The researchers believe that advancements in AI have made the analysis of personal texts faster and more accurate than traditional methods.

Ability to Predict Life Behavior

The study indicated that AI analyses could help predict various aspects of individuals' lives, including their ability to cope with psychological stress, social behavior, and even the likelihood of mental disorders or seeking psychological support.
Professor Chandra Sripada emphasized that language is a crucial key to understanding individual differences in personality and mood, and that AI has improved researchers' ability to read these indicators more accurately.

Despite the notable findings, the researchers acknowledged certain limitations, including the study's reliance on participants' self-reports and the lack of direct comparison with assessments from friends or family members.
They also pointed out the need for further studies that include diverse demographic groups to understand the impact of factors such as age, gender, and cultural background.

At the conclusion of the study, psychologist Colin Wise highlighted that AI has proven its capability to reliably analyze personality traits through everyday language, opening new avenues for developing tools to understand the human psyche and predict various life paths.
