Elon Musk's Wealth Surpasses $800 Billion Following SpaceX and xAI Merger

Elon Musk has become the first person in history to surpass a net worth of 800 billion dollars, following the successful acquisition of his aerospace company SpaceX by xAI, a firm focused on artificial intelligence and social media.
According to estimates from Forbes, the merger has valued the combined entity at 1.25 trillion dollars, boosting Musk's net worth to 852 billion dollars, with SpaceX being the most significant asset in his portfolio.
Prior to the merger, Musk held approximately 42% of SpaceX shares, valued at around 336 billion dollars, based on an earlier acquisition offer that valued the company at 800 billion dollars.
Musk also owned about 49% of xAI, worth approximately 122 billion dollars, following a funding round that valued the company at 250 billion dollars earlier this month.
Post-merger, Musk's stake in the newly formed company stands at 43%, valued at about 542 billion dollars.
Additionally, Musk's portfolio includes a 12% stake in Tesla, valued at 178 billion dollars, along with stock options worth 124 billion dollars. These figures do not account for potential record-breaking compensation that could add up to one trillion dollars if Tesla meets its ambitious targets, including increasing its market value more than eight times over the next decade.
This marks the second merger within less than a year where Musk has combined two of his companies; in March, xAI merged with the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) in a deal that valued xAI at 80 billion dollars and X at 33 billion dollars, close to the amount he paid for Twitter in 2022.
In just four months, Musk has achieved four record milestones in his net worth:
• October: Surpassed 500 billion dollars.
• December 15: Exceeded 600 billion dollars following private investor valuations that pegged SpaceX at 800 billion dollars.
• Four days later: Surpassed 700 billion dollars after the Supreme Court reinstated Tesla stock options.
Musk is now wealthier than the second richest person in the world, Larry Page, by a margin of 578 billion dollars, with Page's wealth estimated at around 281 billion dollars. Musk is also just a step away from becoming the first trillionaire, nearly "half as much as Larry Page" in wealth.
