Tragic Dog Attack Claims Life of Three-Year-Old Girl in Libya

The city of Jaghbub in southern Libya was shaken by a tragic incident when a three-year-old girl was killed after being attacked by a pack of stray dogs in her neighborhood.
The girl, named "Mariam," succumbed to severe injuries sustained during the attack, an event that has stirred public outrage and concern.
This incident is part of a disturbing trend, as another three-year-old girl in Benghazi lost her life in a similar attack just two weeks prior, alongside another child who was also killed in a related incident.
Citizens have expressed deep concern regarding the recurrence of such attacks, viewing the proliferation of stray dogs as a significant threat to public safety. They emphasized that the lack of effective government intervention has exacerbated the issue.
Activist Hamad Al-Masmari stated: "What is happening is unacceptable; innocent lives are being lost, and fear is creeping into people's homes while the state remains silent..." Meanwhile, Slim Al-Obeidi called for a "campaign to eradicate stray dogs," noting that the problem has escalated due to years of neglect.
Conversely, animal rights activist Sabah Shaib condemned the use of violence and killing as a solution to the stray dog issue, labeling it as "inhumane." She stressed that the responsibility lies with the relevant authorities for not implementing preventive and organizational measures, rather than with the animals left uncared for.
In response, the Ministry of Local Administration of the transitional government announced earlier this year a comprehensive plan to address the stray dog problem and combat rabies by forming working groups that include experts and representatives from health and environmental agencies.
These tragic events have reignited discussions about the presence of stray dogs in Libya, with urgent calls for preventive measures to protect children and citizens before further tragedies occur.
