Iraq to Announce Preliminary Parliamentary Election Results After Smooth Voting Process

Major General Qais al-Muhammadi, head of Iraq's Supreme Security Commission for Elections, announced that the preliminary results of the parliamentary elections will be released this evening, Wednesday. He emphasized that the election process was conducted smoothly and transparently, without any significant security violations recorded.
Al-Muhammadi noted that all ballot boxes were closed nationwide at 6 PM on Tuesday. He praised the "heroic and professional" role of security forces in ensuring the integrity of the election process, according to a statement from the Iraqi news agency.
He added that the transportation of ballot boxes and data began at 8 PM after the manual counting was completed and the results protocol was handed over to representatives of political parties.
* Success of Security Plan
Al-Muhammadi indicated that the air force assisted in transporting election materials from remote areas in the deserts of Al-Samawa, Al-Anbar, and Al-Najaf, while air forces managed the transport from provinces with airports to Baghdad. Transport from nearby provinces was conducted overland.
He confirmed that the first phase of the security plan was successfully completed, with technical equipment operating without disruptions.
He also mentioned that over 132 election violations were recorded, which he deemed "not significant to the results," asserting that "the election process is considered one of the most successful in the country's history" in terms of organization and security.
* Increase in Voter Turnout
The Independent High Electoral Commission announced that voter turnout exceeded 55%, with approximately 12 million voters participating out of a total of 21.4 million during the general and special election days. This marks a notable increase compared to the 41% turnout recorded in the 2021 elections, despite the boycott by Muqtada al-Sadr, leader of the Sadrist Movement, during this election cycle.
