Iran Arrests Prominent Reformists Amid Ongoing Crackdown

In a further move against dissent, the Iranian government has arrested three prominent reformist figures, including AzarMansouri, the head of the Reform Front, according to a report from the Fars news agency on Sunday.
Other individuals detained include Ibrahim Asgharzadeh and Mohsen Aminzadeh.
The agency reported that the charges against them range from threatening national unity and rejecting the constitution to collaborating with hostile propaganda, promoting capitulation, and establishing covert subversive mechanisms.
These arrests are part of a broader repression campaign that has intensified in recent months, following a wave of protests that erupted in late December 2025 due to a currency collapse and deteriorating living conditions.
Merchants, students, and various social groups have demonstrated in multiple cities, demanding fundamental political and social reforms.
According to reports from human rights organizations such as Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, security forces have employed excessive force to disperse protesters, resulting in deaths, injuries, and arbitrary arrests of hundreds, including students, academics, artists, and human rights activists.
These organizations have also documented nighttime raids on homes and arrests at workplaces and even hospitals, while official information regarding detention locations or charges remains scarce.
The recent arrests of Azar Mansouri and her colleagues highlight the authorities' efforts to suppress political opposition and counter growing domestic criticism and international pressure, as calls for the release of detainees and assurances of fair trials gain momentum.
