Building Collapse in Tripoli: Rescue Efforts Underway as Families Remain Trapped

In the Bab al-Tabbaneh district of Tripoli, northern Lebanon, a five-story residential building unexpectedly collapsed, leaving several residents unaccounted for beneath the debris.
Rescue operations are ongoing, involving civil defense teams, the Red Cross, and local residents, while the Lebanese army and special forces work to manage the situation and prevent civilians from approaching to ensure the safety of rescue personnel.
So far, eight individuals have been rescued, while five bodies, including a child and an elderly woman, have been recovered from the wreckage.
The collapsed structure housed at least two families, and evacuations of nearby buildings are underway due to concerns that they may also be at risk of collapse. Reports of gunfire in the vicinity have added to the tension, with its source currently unknown.
A fire has also broken out near the collapsed building, prompting firefighters to respond immediately, working alongside local residents to control the situation and facilitate rescue efforts.
The situation in Bab al-Tabbaneh remains critical, with authorities confirming that the search for missing individuals under the rubble will continue, urging citizens to avoid the area for their safety.
