The European Commission issued a serious warning on Monday regarding the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities to ensure the safety of civilians. The Commission reported that approximately 30 million individuals are in need of humanitarian assistance, while an estimated 9 million have been displaced within the country as a result of the ongoing conflict.
Additionally, the Commission condemned attacks on humanitarian aid convoys, attributing responsibility for these actions and other atrocities against civilians to the Rapid Support Forces.
In related comments, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights highlighted that drone strikes have killed around 90 civilians in the Kordofan region, targeting populated areas and medical facilities. He noted that about 21 million people are experiencing severe food insecurity, a situation worsened by the ongoing conflict that began in mid-2023.
