"SDF": Negotiations with Damascus are at a highly sensitive stage with no serious steps taken so far

Senior leader of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Siban Hamo, stated that the negotiation process between "SDF" and the Syrian government is at a highly sensitive stage, emphasizing that actual progress remains limited, and there are no serious steps taken so far to push towards political or military integration.

In an interview with "The Monitor", Hamo clarified that the commitment of the Syrian Democratic Forces to the March 10 agreement remains in place, and the option of integration within the institutions of the Syrian state represents a strategic choice for SDF, but the fundamental disagreement relates to the differing definitions of "integration" and "partnership" by both parties.

Hamo viewed linking the timing of integration or the issue of weapons to specific deadlines as a "wrong approach", while also noting that the United States remains the most influential party in the negotiations between the two sides.

Regarding the possibilities of escalation, Hamo said that "SDF is preparing for all scenarios".

The two sides signed an agreement on March 10 that stipulates the integration of civil and military institutions in northern and eastern Syria, ensuring the constitutional rights of the Kurds, the return of displaced persons, and participation in the transitional process. However, implementation faces obstacles related to the position and specificity of SDF within the army, alongside another fundamental disagreement regarding the form of the state:
decentralization as demanded by SDF, versus the centralization insisted upon by Damascus.
