Al-Shara and Khitab.. Officially Without International Sanctions

The UN Security Council approved yesterday, Thursday, a US draft resolution to lift the sanctions imposed on Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara and Interior Minister Anas Khitab. The resolution passed with the approval of 14 members, while China chose to abstain from voting without opposition.
Damascus quickly welcomed the decision, describing the step as reflecting a change in the international mood towards Syria.
Damascus's Position
Syria's representative to the United Nations, Ibrahim Al-Ali, said in a television interview that the decision came as a result of "positive communication" in recent months, and that the international community has become more engaged in "the real developments on the ground."
Foreign Minister As'ad Al-Shaybani wrote on X platform that his country "appreciates the United States and friendly countries for supporting Syria and its people," considering that Syrian diplomacy has managed to remove part of the obstacles that constrained political and economic movement in recent years.
The American Message
The US representative to the United Nations, Mike Waltz, described the vote as a "strong political signal" that Syria is on a new path, and confirmed that Al-Shara is working to fulfill his country's commitments in combating terrorism.
US President Donald Trump is scheduled to receive his Syrian counterpart at the White House next Monday.
Trump's Statements
Trump stated that the Syrian president is a "strong man" and that their relationship is good, adding that lifting the sanctions "gives Damascus a new opportunity," considering that the performance of the Syrian government is "good so far."
