The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed its satisfaction today, Friday, regarding the increasing pace of political communications with the Syrian government over the past few weeks.

Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that communication channels between Moscow and Damascus are open at all levels, explaining that discussions are advancing on a number of issues, including cooperation in the oil and gas sectors.

She added: "Official communications are being maintained at various levels, and we have noticed that they have become more intensive recently."

According to what was reported by Sputnik agency, the Russian-Syrian dialogue continues along multiple tracks between the relevant ministries and bodies, while economic and energy issues remain a constant part of the bilateral agenda.

In this context, Moscow renewed its concern over Israel's violations of ceasefire agreements with Lebanon, and confirmed that it will continue its efforts aimed at stabilizing the region.

The agency also quoted the spokesman for the Syrian Ministry of Interior, Nour al-Din al-Baba, as saying that Russia has a role that can contribute to enhancing security and supporting the capabilities of the Syrian police.

Transitional Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara visited Moscow on October 15, where he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin, confirming that "the new Syria is rebuilding its strategic relations with various countries, foremost among them Russia."
