A five-story residential building in the Bab al-Tabbaneh area of Tripoli, northern Lebanon, collapsed unexpectedly, trapping multiple residents beneath the debris.

Rescue operations are underway, involving civil defense teams, the Red Cross, and local volunteers. The Lebanese Army and Commando Regiment are on-site to manage the situation and restrict access to ensure the safety of the rescue teams.

As of now, eight individuals have been rescued alive, while five bodies, including those of a child and an elderly woman, have been recovered from the rubble.

The building was home to at least two families, and evacuation efforts for nearby structures are ongoing due to concerns about their stability. Reports of gunfire in the vicinity have added to the chaos, with the source yet to be determined.

Fires have also erupted near the collapsed site, prompting firefighting teams to respond quickly, working alongside residents to manage the situation and facilitate rescue efforts.

The atmosphere in Bab al-Tabbaneh is tense, with authorities emphasizing the importance of continuing search operations for those still missing. Citizens are advised to avoid the area for their safety.
