Syria's Foreign Minister: Lifting of Sanctions a Matter of Time as Country Seeks New Regional Model

Al-Shaybani noted that President Ahmed al-Shara's visit to Washington is part of this context and represents a significant step in the political and diplomatic opening that Damascus seeks after years of international isolation.
The minister reaffirmed that Syria will not revert to a sectarian regime in any form, asserting that the government aims to transform the country into a model for the region and beyond, referencing a new vision for state reconstruction based on civic principles.
He also remarked that recent events in coastal regions and Sweida following liberation have tested the government's ability to maintain security and address post-conflict challenges.
Regarding regional dynamics, al-Shaybani characterized Israel as a negative force in Syria's future, claiming it opposes the changes sought by the Syrian people and aims to undermine any reform or sovereignty processes in the country.
