Sources informed "Al-Arabiya Business" on Tuesday that Nas Saudi is set to sign an agreement to establish an airline operating in Syria, a move regarded as one of the most significant developments in the regional aviation sector in recent times, particularly in light of evolving Arab-Syrian relations.
This development comes as the region witnesses a gradual resumption of economic exchanges between several Arab nations and Damascus, following years of disruption caused by the Syrian conflict. Additionally, regional airlines are looking to expand their networks and capitalize on the reopening of certain air routes, alongside forecasts of increased commercial and logistical traffic as security conditions improve in parts of Syria.
Nas Saudi is recognized as one of the leading low-cost airlines in the region and has expanded its services to new destinations in the Middle East and Asia in recent years. Therefore, its entry into the Syrian market may signal potential economic opportunities in the aviation sector, despite existing logistical and regulatory challenges.
This initiative is also viewed as part of broader efforts to reintegrate Syria economically into its regional context, particularly following Damascus's return to its seat in the Arab League and the interest of some Arab businesses in exploring investment opportunities in the transportation, energy, and services sectors.
