Jordan Weather Forecast Warns of Severe Thunderstorms and Flood Risks

Jordan has issued a warning that the kingdom will be affected starting tomorrow, Friday, January 9, 2026, by a cold and moist air mass accompanied by a low-pressure system located north of Cyprus. This will lead to a significant drop in temperatures and cold, cloudy conditions across various regions.
According to the Jordan News Agency (Petra), rainfall is expected to begin in the morning in the northern part of the kingdom and some central areas, gradually spreading to most regions.
In the afternoon, the cold front will move through the area, bringing heavier and sometimes torrential rain, particularly in the northern and central regions, as well as the southwestern areas, including the valleys and the Dead Sea.
Weather forecasts indicate that the rain may be accompanied by thunderstorms and hail, increasing the risk of flooding in valleys and low-lying areas, as well as rising water levels.
Late at night, the intensity of the rainfall is expected to gradually decrease, with a slight chance of mixed rain and snow on the peaks of the Sharah Mountains, along with fog formation in many areas, especially in mountainous regions.
Weather forecasts also predict notable activity of winds from the west to northwest, with gusts reaching between 50 and 65 km/h, which will enhance the feeling of cold and affect horizontal visibility, particularly in desert areas due to dust.
* High-Level Warning and Advice for Citizens
The meteorological department has issued a high-level warning regarding:
• The risk of flooding in valleys and low-lying areas.
• Reduced horizontal visibility due to fog and low clouds, as well as heavy rainfall.
• High wind speeds and gusts.
• The potential for reduced visibility in desert areas due to dust.
Citizens are advised not to take risks by crossing rivers or areas where rainwater accumulates, to wear warm clothing, to use heating methods safely, to be cautious with the elderly and children, and to exercise care to avoid slipping on wet roads, as well as to secure items that could be blown away by the wind.
* Continued Cold Conditions on Saturday
The effects of the cold air mass will continue on Saturday, with cold and partly cloudy to cloudy weather, and a possibility of scattered rain in some western regions, before the chances of precipitation decrease in the evening, while cold conditions will persist at night with a possibility of fog formation.
