Police Officer Critically Injured in Accident During Vice President's Motorcade in Tennessee

On Friday evening, two law enforcement vehicles were involved in an accident in Tennessee while escorting U.S. Vice President JD Vance, resulting in a police officer being transported to the hospital in critical condition.
The incident occurred in Maryville, approximately 17 miles (27 kilometers) south of Knoxville, and involved a motorcycle officer from the Maryville Police Department and state troopers.
Both individuals were taken to the hospital, although the condition of the state trooper has not yet been disclosed.
Catherine Pierce, a resident agent with the U.S. Secret Service in Knoxville, stated that the agency is closely monitoring the situation, asserting that "the safety and movement of those we protect have not been affected by this incident."
The Tennessee Highway Patrol has initiated a comprehensive investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
It is important to note that the motorcade was part of an official event for the vice president, and his schedule remains unaffected by the accident.
