Colombian President Gustavo Petro has declared the suspension of intelligence sharing with the United States, citing U.S. military strikes in the Caribbean that led to the death of a Colombian fisherman.
Petro stated that this decision includes halting cooperation in military intelligence and suspending communication channels with U.S. security agencies, asserting that the suspension will remain in effect "as long as missile attacks on boats in the Caribbean continue."
The Colombian leader emphasized that the fight against drug trafficking must respect human rights and the dignity of regional populations, accusing Washington of conducting an "extrajudicial assassination operation" that clearly violates Colombia's sovereignty.
This development comes amid escalating tensions between Bogotá and Washington, with the latter accusing Petro's government of inadequately addressing drug trafficking networks and imposing punitive measures in recent months.
