Egyptian Footballer Amr Zaki Detained at Cairo Airport Due to Travel Ban

In an unexpected turn of events on Friday evening, authorities at Cairo International Airport detained Amr Zaki, a prominent figure in Egyptian football and former Zamalek player, while he was preparing to travel abroad.
Security sources indicated that routine checks revealed Zaki's name on a list of individuals prohibited from traveling due to ongoing legal proceedings.
According to these sources, Zaki has received a one-year prison sentence related to an "accident" in El Alamein, along with additional travel bans stemming from various legal disputes and family matters currently under judicial review.
The arrest was part of enhanced security measures at the airport aimed at enforcing judicial decisions and preventing wanted individuals from leaving the country.
Zaki was held immediately following his arrest and is expected to be transferred to the public prosecutor's office for further legal action.
Regarding his sports career, Amr Zaki began with Mansoura before moving to Enppi in the 2003 season, where he led the team to win the Egypt Cup in the 2004-2005 season. His talent shone during the 2006 Africa Cup, which paved the way for his professional stints at Lokomotiv Moscow in Russia and Wigan in England, before eventually returning to Zamalek to conclude his football career.
