U.S. Warns of Navigation Risks in Strait of Hormuz and Gulf of Oman

The U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD) issued a warning on Monday regarding potential risks for commercial vessels navigating the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman. The advisory noted that these vessels have faced threats of detention or seizure by Iran amid rising security tensions in the area.

MARAD specified in an official maritime notice that Iran has made multiple attempts to compel commercial ships to enter its territorial waters, with the most recent incident occurring on February 3.

The agency is conducting an ongoing assessment of the maritime security situation to safeguard the freedom of navigation and the safety of both U.S. and international vessels. It urged shipping companies and mariners to exercise utmost caution and adhere to safety guidelines while transiting these critical waterways.
