US Proposal at UN Security Council Advocates for Steps Towards Palestinian Statehood

Israeli public broadcaster 'Kan' has revealed details of a US resolution presented to the UN Security Council, marking the first time such a proposal has been presented primarily rather than as an annex. The resolution outlines long-term steps to advance the establishment of a Palestinian state.
According to the resolution, prepared by the US administration, "after the sincere implementation of the Palestinian Authority's reform program and progress in the redevelopment of Gaza, conditions may finally be established for a reliable path toward Palestinian self-determination and statehood."
A new point in the proposal states that the United States commits to initiating "dialogue between Israel and the Palestinians to agree on a political horizon for peaceful and prosperous coexistence."
The proposal also mentions a security mechanism indicating that "an international stabilization force" will work with Israel and Egypt, in collaboration with "a recently reviewed and trained Palestinian police force."
This disclosure follows a call from the United States on Thursday for UN Security Council members to achieve "unity" in adopting a resolution supporting President Donald Trump's peace plan for Gaza.
The US mission to the United Nations warned in a statement of "serious consequences" for the Palestinians if the resolution is not adopted, emphasizing that "attempts to sow discord while active negotiations are underway regarding this resolution have serious and tangible consequences that could be completely avoided for the Palestinians in Gaza."
The statement highlighted that "the ceasefire is fragile, and we call on the Council to unite and move forward to ensure the long-awaited peace," considering this a "historic moment to pave the way for lasting peace in the Middle East."
The US mission noted that Washington has been conducting intensive negotiations at the Security Council since early November regarding the resolution, working closely with members and partners to reach a consensus on a document supporting "international stabilization forces" and ensuring "a stable, safe, peaceful, and prosperous future for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, away from Hamas."
