UN Reports Over 100,000 Flee El Fasher Amid Escalating Humanitarian Crisis

Eugenie Bion, spokesperson for the UN Refugee Agency, reported on Friday that over 100,000 individuals have fled the city of El Fasher in a mere two weeks, confirming that additional displacements are expected, while a significant number of civilians remain trapped within the city.

Bion noted that violations against civilians highlight the severity of the crisis in Sudan, indicating that violence and humanitarian challenges are beginning to affect areas beyond El Fasher.

She emphasized that the protection of civilians must be a top priority for all conflicting parties, as thousands are suffering from malnutrition and extremely harsh living conditions.

Bion also explained that neighboring areas to Sudan are receiving an increasing number of refugees, despite their own challenging circumstances, which is placing additional humanitarian pressure on those countries.

This statement comes amid ongoing warnings from international organizations regarding the worsening humanitarian crisis in the Darfur region, alongside urgent calls to establish safe corridors and provide support to affected civilians.
