Darfur Governor Calls for Enhanced Role of ICC in Investigating Crimes in Al-Fasher and Al-Geneina

Minawi emphasized that crimes against civilians, including mass killings, sexual violence, and forced displacement, necessitate strict international accountability. He highlighted that any political solution or ceasefire would be ineffective unless it includes accountability for the perpetrators of these atrocities.
He warned that ongoing violations pose a threat to the unity of Sudan, stating that neglecting justice could lead to the country's division.
Minawi's remarks come amid a worsening humanitarian crisis in Darfur, with over 100,000 people displaced from Al-Fasher in just two weeks, as the UN raises alarms about an escalating humanitarian disaster.
