Kuwait's nationality administration has launched an extensive verification campaign to identify instances of dual nationality and fraudulent claims. This initiative employs historical fingerprint data stored in the criminal evidence department, in conjunction with an electronic biometric database. As a result of the campaign's first phase, the nationality of 120 women has been revoked.
Scope of the Campaign and Target Numbers
The campaign aims to verify the status of approximately 9,000 individuals who have not previously undergone biometric fingerprinting. Their historical fingerprints will be compared with the new data. Sources indicate that most cases identified involve women holding Gulf or foreign nationalities, as Kuwaiti law automatically revokes nationality without exceptions or the option to renounce the other nationality.
Future Expectations
Media estimates suggest that the campaign will expand to include additional phases, applying verification to citizens, residents, and visitors. The goal is to update national databases and safeguard national identity against fraud.
