A delegation from the Syrian government visited the Rmeilan oil field in northeastern Syria on Monday to commence the handover process from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) as part of a recent agreement.
The delegation included officials from various government sectors, such as Major Mervan Ali, head of internal security in Hasakah province, Colonel Ahmad Ahmad, director of airport and border security, and Amjad Nakhal, assistant head of the General Civil Aviation Authority, along with representatives from the Syrian Oil Company.

A technical assessment of the fields

Safwan Sheikh Ahmad, director of institutional communication at the Syrian Petroleum Company, announced that technical and engineering teams would undertake an assessment tour of the Rmeilan and Suwayda fields to evaluate their operational readiness ahead of the next phase of operations.

Job security and salary enhancements for workers

During their visit, the government delegation assured that all employees at the Rmeilan facilities would retain their positions, with plans to enhance their salaries and living conditions. They emphasized that oil resources are a national asset for all Syrians.
Furthermore, the delegation noted that resuming operations at the oil fields would strengthen the state’s finances and boost economic revenues in the near future.

A comprehensive agreement for regional stability

In late January 2026, the Syrian government announced a comprehensive agreement with the SDF, which includes an immediate ceasefire and a gradual integration of military and administrative structures. This initiative aims to unify Syrian territories and restore control over key crossings and strategic resources, particularly oil and gas fields.
