The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced on Saturday the deployment of internal security units in the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood of Aleppo. This initiative is part of a "strategic plan to restore security and stability" following the reported dismantling of armed groups linked to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Tasks Include Civilian Protection and Property Security

The ministry stated that the deployed units have initiated their duties, which encompass safeguarding civilians, securing both public and private properties, and preventing any instances of disorder or security violations. The deployment is being conducted in full coordination with the Syrian Arab Army units operating in the area.

Conflicting Reports from the Ground

Earlier, the Syrian army claimed to have completed sweeping operations in Sheikh Maqsoud. However, Kurdish internal security forces refuted this, asserting that intense clashes are still taking place, highlighting a significant discrepancy in the narratives from both sides.

Reports of Kurdish Fighters' Transfer

According to Reuters, several Kurdish fighters, including leaders and their families, were reportedly transferred overnight from Aleppo to northeastern Syria. Approximately 300 Kurdish fighters opted to remain in Sheikh Maqsoud to continue their resistance.

Redeployment Agreement Welcomed, No Official Confirmation Yet

Ilham Ahmed, co-chair of the Foreign Relations Department in the Kurdish Autonomous Administration of northern and eastern Syria, expressed support for an agreement facilitating the safe redeployment of fighters from Sheikh Maqsoud to eastern Syria. However, no official confirmation regarding the completion of this withdrawal has been issued.

SANA Reports Security Forces Conducting Inspections

Later, the official SANA news agency reported that government internal security forces have begun entering the neighborhood in coordination with the army to conduct search and inspection operations aimed at fully securing the area.
