Elon Musk Reaches $800 Billion Net Worth Following SpaceX's Acquisition of xAI

Elon Musk has made history by becoming the first individual to exceed a net worth of $800 billion, following the acquisition of the artificial intelligence and social media company xAI by his rocket firm SpaceX.
According to estimates from Forbes, the merger, which values the new entity at $1.25 trillion, has increased Musk's wealth to $852 billion, making SpaceX the most significant asset in his portfolio.
Prior to the acquisition, Musk owned approximately 42% of SpaceX shares, which were valued at around $336 billion based on a previous buyout offer that pegged the company's worth at $800 billion.
His stake in xAI was roughly 49%, valued at $122 billion following a funding round that estimated the company's worth at $250 billion earlier this month.
After the merger, Musk's ownership in the combined entity stands at 43%, with a valuation of around $542 billion.
Musk also retains a 12% stake in Tesla, valued at $178 billion, along with stock options estimated at $124 billion.
These figures do not account for potential earnings from Tesla, which could yield Musk an additional $1 trillion if the company meets its ambitious targets, including increasing its market value more than eight times over the next decade.
This acquisition marks the second time in less than a year that Musk has merged two of his companies; in March, xAI combined with the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), a deal that valued xAI at $80 billion and X at $33 billion, a figure close to Musk's purchase price for Twitter in 2022.
In just four months, Musk has achieved four significant milestones in his net worth:
• October: Surpassed $500 billion.
• December 15: Surpassed $600 billion after private investors valued SpaceX at $800 billion.
• Four days later: Surpassed $700 billion following a Supreme Court decision to reactivate Tesla stock options.
As a result, Musk's wealth now exceeds that of the second richest person, Larry Page, by $578 billion, with Page's net worth estimated at around $281 billion. Musk is now positioned just a "half of Larry Page" away from becoming the world's first trillionaire.
