Clementine Nkweta Salami, the UN humanitarian coordinator for Sudan, stated today that the assistance provided to survivors in El Fasher is significantly lacking and does not meet the actual needs of the population. She emphasized that the humanitarian situation is deteriorating with the ongoing influx of displaced individuals.
Salami added that the United Nations lacks sufficient food supplies to address the needs of the displaced and urged the international community to take urgent action to provide necessary support.
She noted that the UN's capacity to respond to the crisis is severely limited, pointing out that current funding covers only 28% of the humanitarian requirements, which could exacerbate the crisis without additional resources.
These comments come as the wave of displacement from El Fasher continues, with reports from UNICEF indicating that the number of refugees has surpassed 100,000 since late October, primarily affecting women and children.
