Ismat Ramadan, the Director of the National Center for Curriculum Development at the Ministry of Education, announced on Thursday that the center has initiated the development of Kurdish language curricula for different educational levels. This follows the establishment of a specialized committee comprising language and education experts from multiple provinces.
Ramadan stated that the preparation, approval, and printing process is expected to be completed within six months, ensuring that the curricula are ready for the start of the upcoming school year.
He noted that this initiative is the first of its kind, as the Ministry tasked the center to implement the provisions of Decree No. 13 of 2026, issued by President Ahmad al-Shara, last Monday.
Ramadan highlighted that the committees have begun establishing general standards for the curricula, which will then be subdivided into detailed standards for each educational level. This will facilitate the preparation of content for printing and distribution to the relevant schools.
He confirmed that the new curricula will align with the national framework for curricula and will be based on scientific and academic principles. He emphasized that the instruction in the Kurdish language aims to promote cultural diversity within the context of national unity.
According to Ramadan, the subject will be taught in both public and private schools in regions where the Kurdish population is significant, in coordination with the provincial education authorities.
