Sources informed Al-Arabiya Business on Tuesday that Nas Air Saudi Arabia is set to sign a contract to establish an airline in Syria. This move is considered one of the most significant developments in the regional aviation sector in recent times, especially given the shifting dynamics in Arab-Syrian relations.
This development comes at a time when the region is gradually resuming economic communication between several Arab nations and Damascus, following years of isolation due to the Syrian war. Airlines in the region are also looking to expand their networks and capitalize on the reopening of certain flight routes, along with expectations of increased trade and logistics traffic as security conditions improve in parts of Syria.
Nas Air Saudi Arabia is recognized as one of the leading low-cost carriers in the region, having expanded its destinations in the Middle East and Asia in recent years. Therefore, its entry into the Syrian market may indicate potential future economic opportunities in the country's aviation sector, despite existing logistical and regulatory challenges.
This initiative is also viewed as part of broader efforts to reintegrate Syria economically into its regional context, particularly following Damascus' return to its seat in the Arab League and the initiation of some Arab companies exploring investment opportunities in transport, energy, and services.
