South Korea Develops Wearable Robot to Enhance Physical Strength

The device utilizes microfibers approximately 25 micrometers in diameter, about a quarter the thickness of a human hair. These fibers are woven into threads that act as artificial muscles, contracting when heated and returning to their original length when cooled, thus generating significant mechanical force relative to the device's light weight.
Resembling a vest or coat, the robot is equipped with sensors that track joint movements such as those of the shoulders and elbows. The system regulates the energy supplied to the muscle-like tissues, ensuring support is provided only when necessary while maintaining user mobility and comfort.
Weighing less than 2 kg, the robot offers a feel similar to regular clothing, enabling users to lift objects effectively or perform strenuous movements with ease.
