Barcelona President Resigns Ahead of Upcoming Elections; Laporta to Run for Re-election

FC Barcelona announced on Monday that it has accepted the resignation of its board president, Joan Laporta, as part of preparations for the upcoming presidential elections at the Catalan club.

The presidential elections for FC Barcelona are scheduled for March 15, 2026, with the newly elected president set to officially assume duties in July of the following year, after the current board's transition period concludes.

Laporta's Resignation in Accordance with Club Statutes

Laporta's resignation was in line with the club's internal regulations, which require the president to resign when running for a new term. He will remain in office until the election process concludes, having announced his candidacy for re-election.

Interim Management During Transition Period

Barcelona confirmed that first vice president Rafa Yuste will temporarily assume the presidency to manage the club's affairs until July 1, 2026, when the power will officially transfer to the newly elected administration.
