Zootopia 2 Sets Box Office Record in China

The highly anticipated animated film "Zootopia 2" from Walt Disney has set a new box office record in China, surpassing the previous record held by the superhero film "Avengers: Endgame" to become the highest-grossing foreign film in the history of Chinese cinema.
According to data from the platform Maoyan, Zootopia 2 has generated 4.251 billion Yuan (approximately 606 million dollars) as of Tuesday morning, accounting for about 36% of the film's total global earnings and significantly exceeding revenues in North America, as reported by the Chinese news agency Xinhua.
This achievement comes at a time when box office revenues in China are projected to exceed 50 billion Yuan (around 7.08 billion dollars) by 2025, according to the national Chinese film authority's announcement last December.
The data indicates that local films contributed the majority of these earnings, totaling 40.952 billion Yuan, which represents 81.9% of the overall revenue, alongside 1.194 billion cinema visits in Chinese theaters.
This success underscores the immense popularity of the Zootopia franchise among Chinese audiences and highlights the strength of the American animation industry in global markets, particularly in the largest Asian cinema market.
