The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) spokesperson Eugene Pion announced on Friday that more than 100,000 people have evacuated from El Fasher in the last two weeks. Pion indicated that additional displacements are anticipated, while many civilians continue to be confined within the city.
Pion highlighted the serious violations against civilians, underscoring the gravity of the situation in Sudan. She noted that the violence and humanitarian crisis are beginning to extend beyond El Fasher.
She stressed that ensuring the safety of civilians should be the foremost priority for all parties involved in the conflict, as thousands are facing malnutrition and dire living conditions.
Pion also mentioned that neighboring regions are increasingly accommodating refugees despite their own challenging circumstances, which further intensifies the humanitarian burden on those areas.
This announcement follows ongoing alerts from international organizations regarding the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Darfur region, along with urgent appeals to establish safe corridors and extend support to impacted civilians.
