Northern Japan has been grappling with its most severe snowstorms in years, with conditions persisting for a continuous three weeks. The Japan Fire and Disaster Management Agency reported on Tuesday that these storms have resulted in 46 fatalities and 558 injuries.

Beginning in late January, the heavy snowfall has created unprecedented traffic disruptions, particularly in areas along the Sea of Japan coast.

The accumulation of snow has led to tragic incidents, with several individuals losing their lives due to snow falling from rooftops or while attempting to clear it, as reported by local authorities.

In Aomori Prefecture, one of the hardest-hit areas, snow depths have reached 1.3 meters, presenting significant challenges for residents, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.

The ongoing storm has raised alarms among both officials and the public, prompting warnings to exercise caution and avoid risks associated with heavy snow, including slipping hazards and potential snow avalanches from rooftops.
