Israeli Shelling in Gaza Claims Nine Lives Amid Ceasefire

In a troubling development despite an existing ceasefire in Gaza, Israeli forces conducted shelling that led to the deaths of nine Palestinians and injuries to several others, according to local reports.
Medical sources confirmed that five individuals, including a child, were killed due to artillery fire from the Israeli army targeting civilian tents in the Al-Zeitoun and Al-Tuffah neighborhoods, as reported by Wafa news agency.
Additionally, four more Palestinians lost their lives and others were injured when Israeli forces shelled tents housing displaced persons in the Qizan Rashwan area, located south of Khan Younis.
Mohammed Basal, spokesperson for Gaza's Civil Defense, stated that three fatalities occurred in the Qizan Abu Rashwan area, including two young men in their twenties and a 12-year-old child, whose bodies were subsequently taken to Nasser Medical Complex, according to German news agency dpa.
The shelling was accompanied by heavy gunfire from Israeli military vehicles in various parts of the city, further escalating tensions in the region.
The Israeli army reported that a unit from the Alexandroni Brigade came under fire from militants during an operation in the Yellow Line area, resulting in serious injuries to a reserve officer who was later hospitalized.
Israeli army spokesperson Captain Ella stated on social media platform "X" that Israeli tanks retaliated by firing at militants and conducting airstrikes, labeling the incident a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement.
Since the ceasefire was established in October 2025, at least 529 Palestinians have died and over 1,460 have been injured, according to reports. The Israeli government maintains that its military actions target militant sites and Hamas members.
