Egyptian Union Suspends 'Esprit OFF' Series Ahead of Ramadan 2026 Due to Regulatory Violations

In a significant move impacting the Egyptian entertainment industry, the union of representative professions has announced the permanent suspension of the series "Esprit OFF" from airing during Ramadan 2026. This decision is described as irrevocable.
The action follows multiple warnings issued to the series' producer, Bilal Sabri, regarding compliance with union regulations and artistic work laws, which he reportedly failed to adhere to.
The latest major violation involved a contract with blogger "Um Jaser" without the union's official approval, clearly breaching the rules that prohibit hiring individuals not registered on the union's official lists.
The union emphasized in its statement that safeguarding the profession and protecting the rights of its members are paramount. It stated that any artistic work not in compliance with legal requirements would face strict repercussions, affirming that the suspension is final and that adherence to equal opportunity principles and artistic work regulations is non-negotiable.
"Esprit OFF" is an Egyptian drama series written by Ahmed Ashour and directed by Karim Rafaat, originally slated for release during the Ramadan 2026 season.
Its storyline follows a once-famous singer from the 1990s who struggles to regain his status in the music industry by collaborating with emerging rap stars, navigating a landscape filled with rivalry and challenges to rebuild his artistic career.
The cast features notable actors such as Monther Riahane, Mirna Walid, Salah Abdallah, Nancy Salah, Tarek El-Nahri, Sherif Baher, Mohamed Soliman, Tahr Abu Leila, Reda Hamid, Rania El-Toumi, Ashraf Talba, Nermin Jamal, alongside rap artists like Samir Aferto, Flex, Risha Costa, Samara, and Sadat.
The union has issued a clear warning against any future violations, reiterating that compliance with the law is essential for continued participation in the Egyptian artistic community.
