Trump to Announce International Peace Council for Gaza Next Week

Two U.S. officials disclosed on Wednesday that President Donald Trump plans to announce the formation of a "Gaza Peace Council" next week. The council, which he will chair, will include several world leaders and is part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at ending the conflict in the Palestinian territory.
The officials confirmed that the announcement will pave the way for the second phase of the agreement intended to stabilize Gaza, as reported by Axios.
Earlier, Trump stated that the names of the participating global leaders would be revealed early this year, noting that several leaders have expressed interest in joining the council, which was established as part of the ceasefire plan between Israel and Hamas.
A U.S. report indicated that the United States has proposed that former international Middle East envoy Nikolai Mladenov serve as the council's representative on the ground, collaborating with a future technocratic Palestinian government.
On November 17, 2025, the United Nations Security Council adopted a resolution welcoming the establishment of the Gaza Peace Council as a transitional administrative body with international legal personality, tasked with creating a framework and coordinating funding for the territory's reconstruction.
The resolution received approval from 13 countries, while Russia and China abstained, and both Israel and Hamas expressed opposition to certain aspects of the plan.
The initiative is based on a 20-point peace document developed by President Trump, which received consensus from all parties during the October 2025 summit in Sharm El-Sheikh.
Regarding international participation, countries such as Turkey, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, and Indonesia have expressed interest in joining the international stabilization force but emphasized the need for an official United Nations mandate before proceeding.
The primary role of the Peace Council will be to oversee the functioning of the Palestinian technocratic committee responsible for managing public and municipal services in Gaza, as well as to establish the executive framework for reconstruction and manage the funding allocated for the territory's development.
