French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot stated today, Friday, that Israel should withdraw from the Lebanese territories it occupies, while emphasizing that Lebanon must continue efforts to limit arms within all state institutions.
During an official visit to Lebanon, Barrot remarked, as reported by Al Jazeera, that there is a unique opportunity to support the country's stability. He urged all parties to act responsibly and to ensure that no Lebanese group is marginalized while addressing existing challenges.
He highlighted that strengthening the capabilities of the Lebanese army should be a priority, especially ahead of the conclusion of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) mission, stressing the importance of avoiding any escalation in the region.
Regarding regional dynamics, Barrot stated that Iran and its supported groups must exercise restraint to maintain stability in Lebanon and the surrounding area. He noted that Paris is coordinating with Washington to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon.
Barrot also mentioned that discussions in Beirut focused on the importance of Lebanon's reconstruction and the ongoing need to implement the arms limitation plan to ensure overall security.
