Egyptian Authorities Shut Down Illegal Weight Loss Center Run by Unqualified Individual

In a significant action against unauthorized medical facilities, health authorities in Dakahlia have shut down a therapeutic nutrition and weight loss center run by an unqualified individual. It was discovered that the center's director held a degree in agriculture and was not a licensed physician, operating illegally in the city of Dekernes.
The inspection campaign, conducted by the Dakahlia Health Directorate, also targeted two addiction treatment and mental health centers in Mansoura and Tanta. This operation involved inspectors from the Drug Authority and representatives from regional and national mental health councils, resulting in the issuance of legal citations and violations.
Dr. Sayyed Farouk, deputy director of therapeutic medicine, confirmed that intensive and surprise inspections of private medical facilities would continue, emphasizing that any practices endangering public health would not be tolerated.
Investigations reveal a recurring pattern where graduates from faculties of agriculture, science, and physical education claim expertise in nutrition. These centers have been found assembling large quantities of unregulated medications and supplements, leading to cases of kidney failure and liver cirrhosis among some victims.
As part of government efforts, the Ministry of Health is coordinating with Parliament to revise medical practice laws to strengthen penalties against the impersonation of medical professionals, which could result in severe prison sentences and multi-million fines, aimed at protecting citizens from illegal medical practices.
