Trump Launches 'Trump Rx' Platform for Affordable Prescription Medications

The Trump administration announced on Thursday the launch of a new online platform called Trump Rx, designed to assist patients in purchasing prescription medications at lower prices by directing them to manufacturers' websites that offer direct-to-consumer sales.
During the unveiling, Trump stated: "You are going to save a fortune, and this is also very beneficial for healthcare overall."
It is important to note that the site does not sell medications directly; instead, it serves as a guide that allows consumers to view prices and obtain pharmacy coupons to facilitate low-cost purchases.
The platform initially features over 40 medications, including popular weight-loss drugs such as Ozempic and Wegovy.
This initiative is part of a broader effort by the Trump administration to address rising healthcare costs, which have become an increasing concern for Americans, especially in light of rising housing, food, and service costs. This issue has been a political vulnerability for the administration ahead of the upcoming midterm elections in November.
Trump emphasized that the lower prices are a result of his administration's pressure on pharmaceutical companies to align U.S. prices with those in other countries, explaining that drug costs abroad could rise as a consequence of this policy.
He added during a roughly 20-minute event at the White House: "We are tired of subsidizing the world."
The launch of the site follows multiple delays, the reasons for which have not been disclosed. Officials had previously confirmed that the site would share prices with consumers before the end of last year, with an anticipated launch in late January.
This platform is part of a series of initiatives announced by the Trump administration in recent months, which include agreements with nine major pharmaceutical companies to lower prices and establish new manufacturing facilities in the United States, aiming to combat rising drug costs and improve affordability for Americans.
